On June 5, the Texas Comptroller’s Office reported SDI has qualified for tax incentives in San Patricio County. Steel Dynamics (SDI) is looking to build a $1.8 billion flat roll steel mill in Sinton, TX, although they’ve also considered other sites in Louisiana and Texas.
This development has been the latest step to encourage SDI to build their new steel mill in Stinton.
In February 2018, county commissioners from San Patricio County voted to approve a tax incentive package for Steel Dynamics.
The potential impact to the Texas economy could be between $113 million to $223 million annually, from 2021 to 2035, as reported by SDI. In addition, it wants to create 190 jobs in 2020 and then stabilize to 500 jobs by 2024.
Qualifying for these tax incentives has been a major boost to push SDI towards Stinton for its final site selection.
