Domestic Mills Have Started Increasing Prices
Recently, in our March 2019 newsletter, Adam Osborn, President of Ace Steel Supply, expressed his views on domestic mill prices. In fact, the last few months his predictions have been accurate.
“Last month I highlighted that the domestic mills were itching to raise prices. That has now started with one to 3 increases depending on which mill it is. I believe the mills will continue to go up as soon as their order books and lead time begin to stretch out.
When in these pricing environments, you should think of it this way. Is there a greater chance of prices going up vs. staying the same? I think there is a very low probability that prices would go down vs up.”
New Flat-Rolled Sheet Mill In San Patricio County
Also, related to Houston steel news, Steel Dynamics has been approved for a 10 year tax reduction in San Patricio county near Corpus Christi. Adam further stated:
“Steel Dynamics announced in November their plans to build a sheet mill in the Southwestern US, but the location has not been finalized.
If built in this area, it would be the closest mill to Houston producing coils hot rolled sheet, hot rolled plate and galvanized sheet and should make SDI more competitive in our market”
